Which is why I never, never, never enter an intersection without scanning. Green light = wait. As for the second one, I would have lifted when I first saw the bus sitting there. Defensive driving means always expecting the other driver to do the stupidest thing imaginable.

I had a similar situation happen last month. Semi decides to pull out in front of me to make a left (not an intersection). Literally locked the brakes to avoid.
